Alright, dear listener…
This week, we resume our reading of The Awakening by Kate Chopin. (Thankfully, with a shorter episode than last time—more on that in the intro.)
The tension escalates dramatically on all fronts during this portion of the narrative—and just when you think that things can’t get any messier, Chopin says, “Hold my beer,” and rolls up her sleeves. Seriously, this novel is a phenomenal reading experience!
I hope you are as intrigued by Edna Pontellier’s fate as I am, dear listener. The Awakening is truly a story worth unspooling...
Of course, you’ll want to listen to the following episode, if you haven’t already, to catch up with the story:
the unspooling podcast - The Awakening by Kate Chopin (chapters I-XX)
Here it is, good listener—the first half of my reading of Kate Chopin’s masterpiece, The Awakening. The narrative is a nice, slow burn. Chopin takes great care to set up the plot and characters with precision. If you enjoy character-driven works, then this one’s for you.
And, if you missed my unspooling of Chopin’s other works, consider checking out these other great episodes of the unspooling podcast:
the unspooling podcast - "Désirée's Baby" by Kate Chopin
Greetings, good listener! This week, we continue our tour of great fiction written by women, in honour of Women’s History Month. In today’s episode, we’ll be taking a brief look at the life and times of American author and feminist, Kate Chopin, before diving into her phenomenal short story, “Désirée’s Baby.”
the unspooling podcast - "The Story of an Hour" by Kate Chopin
Greetings, dear listener! A short episode this week, filled with (I hope) the insightful analysis you’re clamouring for. Join me, as I unspool another classic feminist tale, “The Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin, a fantastic story that will both enrich and entertain you.
Enjoy!
