Here it is, good listener—the first half of my reading of Kate Chopin’s masterpiece, The Awakening.
The narrative is a nice, slow burn. Chopin takes great care to set up the plot and characters with precision. If you enjoy character-driven works, then this one’s for you.
Will the tale end in triumph—or tragedy? Find out, when we conclude The Awakening in another marathon-length episode soon(ish).
This episode comes to you quite a bit later than intended. Sorry about that.
The truth of the matter, good listener, is that I need to take a step back from unspooling for a while and reassess. I’m not sure for how long. I will continue to produce at least one weekly reading to honour the commitment I have made but for the next little bit at least, I will not be working on new writing. (There will not be a written post this week.)
In all likelihood, it will be difficult to find a dedicated window to record and edit the second half of The Awakening in the next week or two—so don’t be surprised if we make a few pit stops between now and then with readings of shorter stories in the meantime.
Be well,
c.d.
