I’m a sucker for moral tales. So, naturally, I was overjoyed to discover this lesser known Stevenson story after stumbling upon it in an anthology—because the sucker’s got fable written all over it! I ended up enjoying it quite a lot and I’m excited to share it with you now. It has some very strong imagery and is beautifully composed in that indomitable nineteenth century style and, I hope anyway, will make for a pleasant diversion from your everyday toils, burdens, and struggles. (For “Will O’ the Mill” strikes me as something of a Sisyphean myth, grappling as it does with the question of life’s fundamental absurdity.)
Enjoy,
