the unspooling podcast - "The Mutability of Literature" by Washington Irving

Hey there, good listener!

I’m very pleased to announce that the subject of today’s unspooling—“The Mutability of Literature” by Washington Irving—comes to us by way of audience request. Thank you for the terrific suggestion,

—perfectly on point!

What an exciting development for the unspooling podcast! Achieving any degree of listener interactivity was always a bucket-list item for me… so I’m humbled and thrilled to present this episode. And all the more so because it allows us to continue our thematic exploration of change and liberation. (Somehow, I’m not at all shocked that the proposed story perfectly coincides with themes we’ve already been exploring… go figure!)

Of course, I hope you enjoy the story—it’s a truly fascinating meditation on art and impermanence. Irving was not only a brilliant story-teller, evidently, but a provocative intellectual, as well—just my kind of writer!

So, please enjoy my reading of Washington Irving’s, “The Mutability of Literature,” and look forward to unspooling it in the near future. If you have any questions or comments that you’d like to add to that discussion, please feel free to post them in the comments on Substack—I might even use them in the next episode of the show!

Until then, happy listening!

Oh—and here’s a link to our last episode, in case you missed it:
