the unspooling podcast - The Awakening by Kate Chopin, pt. 3 (chapters XXXI-XXXIX)

we've arrived at the conclusion of Kate Chopin's fabulous tale of self-realization, feminine sensuality, and the primacy of independent thought and action

Here it is, good listeners!

The remarkable conclusion to The Awakening by Kate Chopin.

It’s all come down to this… Edna Pontellier’s awakening is in full bloom and Chopin continues to ratchet up the tension, while also reeling us in with an intimate view of spectacular, lively characters, whom we have come to know and love through the narrative. With Edna finally embracing her innate sensuality and beginning to fully assert her independence as an individual, the stakes are high as our tale concludes.

I really think the ending will blow you away and, perhaps, even affect you in some way. The Awakening is a powerful story. Of course, we’ll discuss that in greater detail, next episode, when we unspool The Awakening. For now, let’s return to the narrative, and reacquaint ourselves with the wonderful characters and world Kate Chopin has bestowed upon us.

Oh!—and as always, with apologies for my atrocious French! Sacrebleu!
